Configuring Outlook 2010

To configure Outlook 2010 to connect to your Surftown e-mail account, please follow the instructions below.

Throughout this guide we will use 'yourdomain.tld' as a replacement for your actual domain. 'youremail@yourdomain.tld' is used as a replacement for your actual e-mail address.


1. Open up Outlook 2010 and press the File button

2. Click on the Add Account button

3. A dialog should pop up and give you some options

  1. Choose Manually configure server settings or additional server types
  2. Click on the Next button

4. Do as follows

  1. Choose Internet E-mail
  2. Click on the Next button

5. Now you should be asked to enter your information

  1. Change account type to IMAP
  2. Fill out the rest of the form as follows:
    • Your Name: This is the name used as the sender by Outlook, and could contain anything you like
    • E-mail address: Enter youremail@yourdomain.tld
    • Incoming mail server: Enter mail.surftown.com
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Enter mail.surftown.com
    • User Name: Enter youremail@yourdomain.tld
    • Password: The password to your e-mail account
    • Remember password: Unless this is checked, Outlook will continue to ask for the password
  3. Click on the More Settings button

6. Now you should see a tabbed dialog

Go to the Outgoing Server tab and do the following:

  1. Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  2. Choose Use same settings as my incoming mail server

Go to the Advanced tab and do the following:

  1. Change the port for the outgoing server to 587 and choose TLS as your encryption type in the drop down lists marked 'Use the following type of encrypted connection'
  2. Enter INBOX into the root folder path field
  3. Click on the OK button

7. Now you're back at the same dialog as before, so just click on the Next button

8. Outlook will now try to connect to your e-mail account. If you've followed the instructions correctly, there should be no problems. When it's done, just click on the Close button
