How do i manually take a backup of my WordPress?
In this guide, we will go through the steps of taking a backup of your WordPress installation.
It is always a good idea, to have a backup of your site in case something bad should happen.
On the bottom, WordPress consists of a lot of files, and a database. All the files are what makes the website work as it should, while the database stores all the personal settings, like your login information, blog posts, and so on.
Both the files and database are therefore important in case you need to do a restore.
Lets start with the files. Those are found in your domain folder on your FTP. You can see how to connect to the FTP by following this link.
We have now connected to the FTP. On the left side you can see files that are locally stored on your computer and on the right you can see files stored on the webhotel.
On the left side, we will create a folder, called "My backup / Min backup", and that is where will will place our backup.
Now we download the files from the webhotel to your local backup folder.
The way we do this is as simple as pulling the Domain folder from the domain that you want to backup, from the right to the My Backup folder on the left. When that is done, Filezilla will start to download all the files to your computer. This can take a couple of minutes, as WordPress consists of a lot of files.
When that is done, and you have downloaded all the files, you should see your domain folder in both the right and left side of Filezilla.
The last thing we now need, is to take a backup of our database. This is thanksfully just as easy, and we have another guide for that right here.
When you have completed an export of your database, you can move the .sql file to the My backup folder.
A complete backup should look a little like this.
Should any complications occur, or if there was something you didn't get, then don't hesitate contacting our Support team as we can assist you in taking the backup.
It is always a good idea, to take at least a monthly backup, in case anything should happen.
