Configuring Outlook 2016
This guide shows how to set up an email account hosted by Surftown, using Outlook 2016 for Windows.
Before we get started
First and foremost, you need to have your email account and it's password ready. If you haven't created an email address yet, then you can do so by following this guide.
If you have forgotten your email address' password, then you can reset it by following this guide.
Email account setup
In many cases, Outlook 2016 will be able to configure your email account automatically. Start by entering your name, your email address, and the email address' password. I our example we have used "Surftown" as a name and "firstname.lastname@example.org". When you set it op on your computer you need to substitude those with your own name and email address.
Once done, press the "Next" button:
If the screen below appears, simply press the "Finish" button to complete the setup. If not, press the "Back" button and then select "Manual setup or additional server types" and press "Next again".
Now enter the following settings:
Account type: IMAP
Incoming mail server: mail.surftown.com
Outgoind mail server (SMTP): mail.surftown.com
User Name: Your email address
Password: Your email address' password
Remember password: Enabled
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Disabled
Once done, press the "More Settings" button:
Go to the tab named "Outgoing Server" and check the box named "My outgoig server (SMTP) requires authentication:
Now go to the tab named "Advanced" and set the following settings:
IMAP port: 143
IMAP encryption: TLS
SMTP port: 587
SMTP encryption: TLS
Root folder path: INBOX
Now click the "OK" button:
Click "Next". Outlook should now test the connection:
Finish by pressing the "Finish" button.
