How do I send to a moderated mailing list?
Surftown provides the ability for customers to create mailing lists that send emails on behalf of approved senders. This allows group email for discussion and distribution of information.
By default, mailing lists on Surftown's servers are moderated. This means that any email sent to the list must be approved by a moderator before it will be distributed to the recipients on the list.
This guide will show you how to send an email to a moderated mailing list.
If you want to create a mailinglist before using this guide, see our guide here.
If you need to add a moderator address to your list, see our guide here.
We suggest that you use a moderator address to send to the mailing list.
In this example, we will be sending to the list email@example.com
1. Write the email you want to send to the list, and write the list in the to: field. Then send the email.
2. Every address on the moderator list should immediately get an email with the subject “MODERATE for firstname.lastname@example.org”
The quickest way to accept the email is actually to press “Reply All” and then remove “reject” and “recipient list not shown” from the to: field before sending the reply.
This will tell the server to start sending your email to the mailing list. Note, that this can only be done once, so in case multiple moderators accept the email, it will still only be sent out one time.
As a final note, if you reject the email instead of accepting it, you cannot undo the action. To send the email to the mailinglist after that, you must start the process over from step 1.
